Better Pictures privacy policy.

Better Pictures has no account, adverts, tracking, analytics SDK or app-operated cloud service. A photo is processed on your iPhone only after you choose it.

The short version

Better Pictures is an offline-first camera companion. Its Shot Coach, multi-brand gear catalogue and learning guides do not need an account. When you choose a photo, the app analyses it on the device. Better Pictures does not upload the selected original or operate a separate photo, sync or analytics service.

Photos and metadata

When you choose a picture from Photos or Files, Better Pictures temporarily decodes that file in memory to read available EXIF/TIFF camera settings and analyse the rendered pixels with Apple frameworks.

  • The selected photo is not uploaded to Better Pictures or another app-operated server.
  • It is not added to a Better Pictures photo library or retained after you leave the result.
  • Analysis may consider luminance, deep shadows, near-white highlights, visible edge definition, faces and subject placement.
  • Camera, lens, shutter, aperture, ISO and focal length appear only when the file contains those fields. Better Pictures does not infer an absent setting.
  • GPS coordinates and camera serial number are not displayed or written to review history.

Some images—especially screenshots, messaging-app copies and edited exports—contain little or no camera metadata. A camera JPEG or HEIF usually provides the clearest review. A RAW file works only when the iPhone can decode it.

Review history

Better Pictures can keep up to 20 small review summaries in its private local preferences. A summary may contain the review date, headline, camera and lens names, shutter, aperture, ISO and the leading next-shot suggestion.

A summary does not contain the original photo, a thumbnail, GPS coordinates or camera serial number. You can clear all review summaries at any time from My Kit.

Device backups

Apple may include local app preferences in an iCloud or computer backup according to the backup settings you control. Better Pictures does not operate a separate sync or backup service.

Apple services

  • Photos and Files: Apple’s pickers provide access only after you choose the relevant action and select an image.
  • On-device processing: Apple ImageIO and Vision frameworks are used to decode metadata and support local image observations.
  • TestFlight or App Store diagnostics: Apple may handle diagnostics under your device and Apple privacy settings. Better Pictures contains no third-party diagnostic or advertising SDK.

Better Pictures Pro purchases

Apple processes the optional one-time Better Pictures Pro purchase and purchase restoration through the App Store. Better Pictures checks Apple-signed StoreKit entitlements to decide whether Pro is available, including eligible Family Sharing access. We do not receive payment-card details.

Changing or losing Pro access does not delete saved cameras, lenses, shot plans or review summaries. The free limits apply when adding new kit until Pro is restored.

Your controls

You can clear review summaries or use Start Fresh inside Better Pictures. Deleting the app removes its local data from the iPhone, subject to any device backups you control. Photo access can be changed in iOS Settings.

Better Pictures does not sell personal information, build advertising profiles or track you across other companies’ apps and websites.
